Increasing Number of Polio Cases in Pakistan

There has been a new case of a polio outbreak reported in North Waziristan, which brings the total number of polio cases in Pakistan up to 14 in 2025 so far.

As confirmed by the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Pakistan, there has been another polio case in North Waziristan, bringing the national total number of polio cases in Pakistan to 14 in 2025. The latest case is a 19-month-old child, showing the importance that every child receives a vaccine. 

Polio is most likely to emerge in high-risk areas, because these are often affected by conflict or very remote and therefore difficult to reach during vaccination campaigns. Additionally, factors like misinformation, community, resistance, and security issues have also led to inconsistencies in the immunization process. But the disease is highly infectious and incurable, and the only protection measure is the oral vaccine for every child, making the meticulous execution incredibly important.

There is an ongoing threat of polio in Pakistan and this new emerging case raises concerns about the efforts of the government to eradicate this disease. Although, health authorities also implied that the parents play an important role in ensuring their child receives the necessary vaccination treatment.
